BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

I commenced training in the field of forensic document examination in January 1980, as a serving Queensland police officer, and successfully completed a four (4) year certified training course. I qualified as a forensic document examiner in 1984.

I was until 31st March 1991, the Officer In Charge of the Document Examination Section, having been officer in charge from August 1989 to March 1991. I have, since that date, commenced a full time consultancy service in the field of document examination.

My field of expertise includes the examination and comparison of handwriting and documents; the examination of false, genuine and modified signatures; the examination of typewriters and typewriting; the examination of obliterated, damaged and fragmented documents and any other matters necessary to establish by scientific means, the genuineness or falsehood of handwriting and documents.

I have over 42 years’ experience in this field, during which time I have been employed by the Queensland Police Service and as a self employed consultant in the field of document examination.

During this time I have carried out examinations of this nature for the Police Departments of both Queensland and the Northern Territory, other Government Departments (State and Federal), Lending Institutions (Banks, Building Societies etc) and many private firms and companies (Solicitors etc), involving many thousands of documents and in excess of 3100 separate investigations.

I have also undertaken matters in New Zealand, Fiji and Singapore.

I am a member of the Australasian Society of Forensic Document Examiners Inc.

I have prepared and presented numerous papers on areas of document examination for conference, workshop and lecture purposes, involving the Queensland Police Service, the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, the Australian Government Solicitors Office, the Office of the Director of State Public Prosecutions, Work Cover Queensland and other Government departments.

I have given evidence, relating to document examination matters in the Supreme, District and Magistrates Courts of Queensland {Criminal and Civil jurisdictions}, and courts of the Northern Territory on over 560 occasions.
